| | Non-EU Back & Forth every 3 months, now engaged.
I am a US citizen in a relationship with a Swiss citizen, we're now engaged, but my 3 months is up in a few weeks. Can I apply for an extension or a new type of visa, so I do not have to go back? I plan to live in Neuchatel and not work, but will attending French school in Lausanne in a few months. This is all very confusing, any help woud be much appreciated. |

Congrats on your engagement! I was in a similar-ish situation, but not really because I went back (and stayed) in the states to plan the wedding and work, and didn't return til after the wedding. (I'm gone again, visiting my parents.) Anyway, I guess you'll have to ask at the office in Flon? I applied for my visa before I left and didn't get anything back yet, hopefully I won't have trouble getting back in. Are you getting married in CH or the states?

You can get a fiancée visa. If you go to the community, they should
be able to help you with this. If not, you can ask the Swiss consulate
in the US. Your partner should be able to help you with the language
and bureaucracy of the matter.
Good luck!!

I would prefer to be able to stay and marry here in CH, but we really need to find out if it is possible. We have not gotten any definitive answers and I've been researching, but to no avail. I'll let you know when and if I get an official answer.

When we registered with the Town Hall for our wedding, we got a little slip of paper that confirmed our wedding date. I took that (they didn't ask for it!) and a bunch of other stuff to the Aliens Police and they told me to apply by post and that from the moment I send my application I'm on a fiance visa. I didn't have to leave Switzerland and I could stay for three months before our wedding. Their official permission came in like two weeks.
Hope this helps. |
