Leaving the country after buying a flat...

Hello All,

I have recently bought an apartment in geneva but now I am faced with leving the country to work back in the UK. I have a B Permit, I just wondered what happens if I come back to Switzerland in a few years, what sort of permit will I get if any?

Thanks, Andy

I don't know. What country are you from? Your permit is not related to your having bought a flat, BTW.

I am from the UK. If I want to come back to Geneva in a few years and live and I already own an apartment in Geneva what sort of permit should I get? I guess I will need some sort of permit to live in Geneva

Yes. You need a permit. However, as I said above, it is not related to the fact that you own property. Assuming "from the UK" means you are citizen of the UK and not just living there you can get a B permit because you are an EU citizen. You may need to show you can support yourself if you are not coming for a job or to be self employed.

Hai,

I recommend selling the property before moving out of Swiss. With B- permit, you cannot rent the property and fly out. If this is on mortgage, please be careful, the bank can charge a fine & interest upto CHF 30000.

Please be careful. And of course you need a new permit for re-entry. Property ownership does not qualify you for a permit. Please check with the relevant authorities.

Best wishes

I was told that if you have B permit and you buy an apartment, the B permit can be converted into a C permit. I don't know if this is true.
