Hello,
We would like to present our current situation on this forum seeking counsel upon our decision as a couple to move to Switzerland.
I am a Lebanese working as an accountant in Freetown – Sierra Leone and my fiancée is Spanish currently residing in Lebanon. She has been offered a job opportunity in Geneva and we are considering moving to Switzerland together. Many questions aroused mainly our concern of my entry to Switzerland as I am a non EU citizen and have no job offers for the moment in Switzerland. Also the general counsel of Switzerland in Freetown, informed me upon consultation that no visas for Switzerland can be issued from Sierra Leone, but from Abidjan in nearby Cote d’Ivoire, which currently experiences political instability due to the fact of contested presidential election results. Our questions are as follows:
1-Is it possible for me to get a visa online for Switzerland or via mail? Or do I have to travel to an African country with a Swiss embassy or to Lebanon and apply for visa?
2-What kind of permit will my fiancée have in Geneva? And will I receive the same status once we r married?
3-Will it be more practical and time saving if we get married before she leaves to Switzerland? We were planning on getting married in Geneva once she settles there and then apply for my residency. Alas my chances of getting a visa to Switzerland are rather slim because of my non-EU nationality and my residence in Sierra Leone with no Swiss embassy.
4-Will I be subject to the quota system I read about on this forum? Or since I will have a residency permit, my chances of finding work will be much more facilitated?

Your contribution is much appreciated. Thank you in advance for your honest replies.

Well.. you're already over one hurdle as there IS a Swiss embassy in Freetown - Sierra Leone.

Their address is:

Consulate General of Switzerland
*Freetown Cold Storage Co Ltd
George Brook
Freetown
Sierra Leone

Probably easier but not a lot of difference.

Mr Rodiger (rudy) Bruns, the consul of switzerland in Freetown, (he owns the Freetown cold storage Co Ltd), assured to me during our last meeting that the consulate in Freetown does not issue visas for Switzerland and that i have to present my demand in person to the embassy in Cote D'Ivoire.

I had the same problem in another country - the Swiss Consulate in Brisbane, nor the main Embassy in Canberra can issue visas - only the Consulate in Sydney could. The consulate in Brisbane was run by the owner of a Logistics company ( schenker dot com )
