Several questions for you guys here.
I am a non EU, Canadian.
I was told that despite having a permanent employment contract, my employer in Switzerland could not obtain a B or L permit for me. I do not count as an expert in their mind. I hold a University degree and have about a year of experience. Switzerland is practically desperate according to job advertisements for people with my skill, but again maybe the lack of experience is a problem. Only thing the authorties will issue is a trainee permit which is valid for 12 and can be extended to 18 months.

My employer told me however, that the authorities also said that there is no way I could stay and work in Switzerland when the Trainee permit expires. I find this very hard to believe or maybe I am just hoping?

Why would they not allow me to work after the trainee permit expires if my company would like for me to stay on? I am pretty sure someone went through a similar thing and maybe after the Trainee permit expired, they obtained an L or even a B???

I have nothing to really add to the debate, but I expect it would help those who could if you were to clarify what field you are going into, and where in Switzerland it would be?
