Master Student Permit Extension

Hi all,

So I am here studying my Masters in Marketing (from Universita della Svizzera Italiana) and am rapidly approaching graduation (June-July 2011). I had heard last Fall that the law was passed for students to stay up to 6 months after graduation to find a job. I was just wondering if any one could help me find the answers to some questions:

1. Would I still have my student B permit? Or will I just be considered a really long-term tourist?
2. Do I have to apply for this extension or is it just given to me? If I have to apply for it, do I apply through my school or at the foreigner's office?
3. Does the extension only work for students who have come in after a certain date?
4. Has anyone had experience with this yet?

I know the likelihood of me finding a job without a permit and needing full sponsorship is slim, but are there others that have done this? I just feel like I have applied for a bazillion jobs (literally, 2 years now and at least 2-3 per week) and gotten maybe 1 interview and then they said they found some else. Maybe if you have success stories please post them because right now I am seeing no blue sky in sight :0(

Thanks,

Tara

Re: Master Student Permit Extension

Hello,

Here is what I know about it.

1. Would I still have my student B permit? Or will I just be considered a really long-term tourist?

It will not be a student B permit, will be some other sort of permit, not sure which (maybe L)

2. Do I have to apply for this extension or is it just given to me? If I have to apply for it, do I apply through my school or at the foreigner's office?

Yes, you have to apply through the same procedure as you apply for annual student B permit and you will have to show financial means for 6 months and present of accommodation.

3. Does the extension only work for students who have come in after a certain date?

No, no restriction, but you have to apply right after graduation when your current permit expires. You can not leave Switzerland and then apply for this type of permit.

Don't have personal experience with it, but I was asking international student support about it.

Hope that helps a bit.
