Ci permit question: can I re-enter Switzerland?

Hi my friends, a question for you guys about Ci permit.
My situation: I'm currently in Switzerland holding Carte de Legitimation (spouse works at UN). I'm not an EU citizen and in general my people need a Schengen visa to enter the country.
As I'm about to apply for Ci permit for employment, I realize that I must travel to outside Europe for a few weeks during this application process. I heard one must surrender his Carte de Legitimation for Ci permit. So question is:
Can I re-enter Switzerland in the process of exchanging Carte de Legitimation for Ci permit? Do I need another Schengen visa?

They will just take a copy until you actually do the exchange.

Re: Ci permit question: can I re-enter Switzerland?

hi, thanks a lot!
So my understanding is that I will keep my carte de legitimation (which allows re-entry to Switzerland) while attestation paper for Ci permit is being processed, right?

One other related question: how long does it usually take for attestation to be ready? (My spouse is with UNOG).
