France, notaire...help!

(apologies for originally putting this in the families section. I'm reposting this here, in the more appropriate section.)

My fiance is French and we would like to do a prenup/contract de mariage according to French law. We will marry in the US (where I'm from) and live in Switzerland together.

I'm confused by the whole concept of "notaire."

Do we have to go to France to get this done with a French notaire? Or can we get it done in Switzerland somehow? Do we both have to be there in person or is it okay if we go through it with a fine tooth comb and signed it at home and one of us "turn it in" to the office? How long would such a procedure take if we more or less know what kind of prenup we want?

I would appreciate any help on this topic!
