No, i think its Ricardo.Ch or cragislist..not sure..

Or start searching here

You don't " get " a B permit, you need a job in order to get one, your employer can request one for you, your Swiss employer that is.

You will start of with the L permit like most of us did.

Any job in sight in Geneva?

Yeah been working here for a couple of weeks now. Getting the job has been the easy part, finding the house has proved to be extremely challenging but Ive finally found something ideal. Now getting this B Permit seems like its another pain in the aschlock..

Is everything here in Switzerland such a struggle.. Im surprized they can make watches here cause it seems that nothing else here runs smoothly

House and a job..lucky you..got the house, no job..here for a while now..

Ask your employer,he should arrange the B.. or go to your Gemeinde ambt with your work contract, they can request a B for you also.

Ill take it you have an L right now ?

B permit takes a while, sometimes up to a month so ask your boss to sign the paper perhaps?

You buying the house?

Well they do, so re-evaulate your criticisms.

It's frustrating when things don't go your way , to your expectations, but the system works very well. It is slow and beaurocratic, just have patience (and all your documents ready, the ability to communicate in German/French/Italian, loads of spare cash, references , permits , debt statements etc etc)

So, um, you could do as suggested above and either ask your employer to do it for you or go to the permits office with your job contract and apply there.

Hopefully you've got a citizenship which will allow for an easy permit issuance (meaning: EU). If not, well, you're working illegally and that's another kettle of fish.

I'd also like to point out an amazing feature on EF. You may not have thought they'd have come up with something so advanced, so revolutionary... the search feature.

I think you can get a B permit by killing somebody and taking over their identity. Somebody of a similar age/height/skin colour would be preferred. If you get the right person you can also keep their house and car.

So you entered another country and expected to swoop in and buy a house without dealing with any red tape? I'd like to welcome you to Planet Earth!

The reason you need the B permit is that purchasing property is normally restricted to Swiss citizens or residents. The B permit is the proof of your residency which is normally issued by your job. I assume your HR has not finished all the paperwork (or it is stuck on some cantonal civil servant's desk) so you will have to wait.

It's probably no worse than relocating to any other foreign country, and I'm sure there are places where it's infinitely more difficult.

I have always found the Swiss administrative machine to be pretty efficient and fair in its treatment of people. Delays and resulting inconvenience are as often as not the fault of the HR departments of multinationals, rather than local bureaucrats.

Re: Where do I get one of these B permits

Hi, I am Swiss born, married to a Brit, and lived in UK most of my adult life. When we came back to live here when he retired, we bought a house - but this had to be done in my own name only, as even though he was entitled to Swiss nationality and was going to be resident here, his name could not even be on the deeds. Now he is fully resident here and got B permit (and now Swiss nationality) this has been reversed and we own the house jointly.

This depends on where you want to buy - in some areas you have to be Swiss, in others foreigners can buy, under certain conditions and quotas.

I think that has changed now though, no ? I know several couples who have bought houses here despite neither of them being Swiss (one Spanish-Irish couple, one Italian-Italian, one French-American for example).

Edit: Sorry Odile, I missed your last sentence...
