EU-B-Permit Absence from Switzerland

Hi All

I expect that the following question has been asked and answered elsewhere on this very useful forum, but I am afraid that I cannot find the thread!

My family (wife + 3 kids) & I are in canton Vaud on EU B-permits (since January 2006). I am working close to Lausanne.

Unfortunately my wife has not settled over here, and she and the 3 kids are returing to the UK initially for 3 or 4 months to see whether they want to stay their permanently or come back to Switzerland. I will remain in Switzerland (though I may move to a different Canton) working with my current employer.

My question is regarding the B-Permits of my wife & 3 kids - as there is a chance (hopefully a good one!) that they will see the light and realise all the benefits of living in Switzerland, and therefore wish to come back here after 3 or 4 months in the UK, I do not wish to lose their permits. I have heard that it is possible to "suspend" their permits for upto 6 months for temporary absences?

I wondeer whether someone has had experience of this, and can let me know how to go about it? Is it an automatic suspension upon request, or does one have to jump through various hoops?
Also do I just go down to the Controle des habitants for this sort of request or is it more complex?

Finally - one further question re my B-permit. As I said, it is likely that I will move from Canton Vaud to live in Valais (though still working at my present office in Vaud) - my B-permit states that it is "valable pour toute la Suisse". I am presuming therefore that it is not a problem for me to live in Valais - and therefore I just need to notify the local commune that I am moving, as well as the new commune that I am moving to - is this understanding correct?

Many thanks to all for any advice/help.
Rick

Re: EU-B-Permit Absence from Switzerland

What is it that your wife & children dislike about living in Switzerland? If it's being a bit isolated, I think moving to Vallais will make that worse. At least Lausanne is a bit international.

I'm sorry, I don't know if you can "suspend your permit, but as was noted in another post, you can leave for 3 month.

I'm sure Richard will answer soon.

I guess it won't matter if you do not intend to get the C permit.
Because my friend has a simliar situation and nobody tried to take her permit away after 1 year absence.
