| | Work Permits / 6 Month for non-EU Graduates?
Hi everyone,
Not sure if anyone has had any experience with this, as it is a new law and everything.
I just graduated from the ETH as an American, and from my understanding it is possible to get a 6 month extension & treated like someone from the EU for work permits: http://www.bfm.admin.ch/content/bfm/...abgaenger.html
However, when I went in to renew my residence permit in Zurich for the 6 months, nobody seems to have known about this, and they said it wasn't possible and that I should deregister, etc.
Does anyone have any experience/advice/input about this?
Thanks!

I couldn't actually find the link while I was there. I did send a follow-up email and will try to go in again on Monday to see what they say... but I'm hoping someone else has a success story, as right now I'm not too hopeful.
She did call her boss, who called her boss, and so forth, and they said it wasn't possible then, but now that I have the link we'll see what they say.

Did you go to kreisbüro? It's very likely that they don't know about the new law. You can ask about it to Migrationsamt.

| | [Solved] Work Permits / 6 Month for non-EU Graduates?
Good call - I actually went to the Migrationsamt yesterday and was initially told the same, that it wasn't possible (even with a copy of the new law).
However, after asking why this was the case and so forth, they "made another call" and wrote an exception for the Kreisburo, basically telling the Kreisburo that I should get the 6 month extension.
So, for me the problem is solved. However, as I know there are other international students who likely will face the same situation (and hopefully they all know about the law), I asked what I should tell them - as in who to approach, why the Kreisburo didn't understand what I was talking about, etc. In this aspect, there wasn't much they told me ("I often ask myself why some people get it and some don't, and even I don't understand" was the reply).
My advice to anyone who is trying to get the 6 month extension for looking for a job after graduating from a Swiss University is to go to the Kreisburo, with a copy of the law from the link below, and if that doesn't work try the Migrationsamt... http://www.bfm.admin.ch/content/bfm/...abgaenger.html
(Print the PDF from the right, titled "Information: Erleichterte Zulassung und Integration ...." "

I saw the document, but it's in German so I can't completely understand it. Does it mean that once you get a degree from a Swiss university, you are exempt from the prioritization of Swiss/EU citizen (given that you're non-EU in the first place) ?

Thanks! | | | | | You should not deregister, based on the new law send cited law and printout of your bankacoount, zou should have at least 20.000 for 6 months stay and they issue you 6 months L permit for the job search. You have this limited time to get a job...
