| | getting B EC/EFTA permit
Hi,
I am Italian, I have signed a contract with a Swiss company in Zurich. I am supposed to start my service on the 4 April.
I'll look some apartments next week.
My question: assuming I'll be able to close a house contract by the end of the next week, I'll have practically time from 28/03 to 1/04 to apply for the B EC/EFTA permit. Provided I have all the documents is this time enough? You get it immediately or you need to wait a few days? How many?
Thank you / Besten Dank.
Greetings.

Thanks, I was just reading some posts.
Now, I am a bit worried, because in the contract there is a clause saying that contract is valid only if I'll have a valid work permit. |

Or you can start and then let's say in the first month you or the employer applies for the permit?
Thank you.

I'm afraid that I have no idea. I had an L when i started work which got changed to a B on my next renewal.
I suggest you contact the relevant authorities who will be able to answer your question. Perhaps your new employer will be able to shed some light on it as well, they have probably run into it before.

Arrive. Go to local town hall and apply for your residence permit. They will give you a note for your employer which will be enough for them. You have't needed a work permit per se since 2004 . Your residence permit should be with you after a few days depending on the workload at the town hall.

Thank you. | | | | | As an Italian there is no precondition to starting work. Many employers are behind the times.

I asked the same question in another forum and got basically the same answer. What happens is that you start working without problems and give the permit to your employer once you get it a few weeks/days later.
My fear was that it must be given absolutely before my first day of work.
Everything's fine then.

Note, sometimes it can take a couple of months for your permit to arrive. Just as it can take a couple of months of find a place to live. Depends how lucky you get and what your individual circumstances are.

We will see. |

I recently switched permit (EU) and the new one was with me six days later. It arrived by post, postmarked from the local office - so I figure the Canton had it done in four days. Two of those being a weekend.
In the meantime just tick the B permit box on apartment applications, and if there's any doubt offer a copy of your work contract.

Hi,
just one more question on this thema.
I got an apartment, the contract however starts from thr 16 of April, while my contract starts from the 4. April as I said. In this couple of weeks I will stay probably in Hotel.
Could be this mismatch a problem when I apply for the permit? I guess it should no make difference, but would you like your opinion.
Thanks.

Thanks. | | | | | No. Just give them your apartment address and tell them you are staying in a hotel until then. |

By the way, the apartment is in Uster, do you know to what office I have to go for the permit?
Cheers.

Cheers. | | | | | You need to get to the Stadhaus - a reasonably tall building, close to the train station.
