Hi all, have looked for a thread on this, but didn't quite find what I was looking for.

I have recently been to the Gemeinde in Allschwil (WP for me, residency permit (for now) for my girlfriend), no problem with mine, but I did have to bring in work contract and bank account details for our lass. Fair enough, did so, your man takes my details and then says, send this letter off to the immigration (details that she's living with me).

The question is, which address, and does it have to be marked FAO anyone do you think? Basel Migration office? I'd hate to send it off, lose it, then a) waste time b) run into trouble overstaying or c) have do it all over again...

They're really nice at that Gemeinde by the way, if you're not from Allschwil or have no need to go, pop along anyway, soak up the friendly and efficient atmosphere. Saying that, I could go back and ask, but they'd really think I was stupid, having been there roughly a billion times last week....

i could be a little out of my depth, as have been treading water in france for a year or so. out of interest, we have to make the visit this week, moving to allschwil 1 may....did they say how long for a work permit, and also i need a residence permit (one of those third worlders from NZ), though i dont need a visa to be there, did they give an indication of time. sorry cant help you with immigration address, maybe they just assumed everybody knows that.

I would go back and ask them to be totally sure. Doesn't matter if you've been countless times already. You are fortunate in that they are are helpful, efficient and friendly.

Are you moving to Switzerland for work? If so then I'm afraid you do need a visa for entry.

The process should be apply for and get job offer, employer arranges work permit, Swiss contact you ref visa, you pick up the visa (can be in France at the Swiss embassy), you take this when you register at the local town hall.
