Work permit from Romania - change to rules/procedures

Hi,

If anyone has recent experience, or insight into how the new visa rules affect the process for getting a work permit for a Romanian citizen, I'd be grateful.

So far we have submitted the application, along with evidence that we cannot get anyone within Switzerland to do the job (one difference with Romania is that you don't have to prove that you can't find anyone in the EU).

The confusing part is whether under the new rules the person will have to pick up an entry visa from the swiss consulate general in Romania, and then enter, or whether they can arrive first and then register at the Gemeinde without the entry visa in their passport.

And before anyone asks, the person has actually contacted the swiss consulate general in Bucharest, and they didn't have an answer! They said that once the work permission is issued, pick up the paperwork, register at the Gemeinde and *maybe* fly back to Romania to get the visa

Re: Work permit from Romania - change to rules/procedures

Well I'm from Romania and for me the process was:
1. Company here applied for permit and got it in about 3 months (lame!)
2. I arrived using my ID card at the border then registered at the gemeindehaus and got the actual permit in about a week.
3. During that week I was allowed legally to work

I don't get all this talk about a visa, a Romanian citizen doesn't need a visa to enter Switzerland since at least 2 years ago, one can simply enter using his Romanian ID card or passport (if one has a passport, I didn't for example). Before moving here permanently I visited a few times and always used just my ID card. True, sometimes the border guards at the airport would give me funny looks and I'd hear the "falsch" word muttered between them, but eventually they let me through

hth

Yep, no visa required since June 2009. My bf and I are still waiting for our permits (jmf, 3 months, really?!) but are allowed legally to work as we pay all our contributions etc. But no visas fro almost 2 years now

Re: Work permit from Romania - change to rules/procedures

I missed the first quota of permits due to some bad timing, so then I had to wait some more months. What was funny, after the delay, is that once I actually got the permit I didn't move here straight away and my employer got a letter from the Migrationsamt asking why I hadn't already moved Also, as far as I understand, the bigger the company applying for the permit the better your chances of getting one (sooner).

Hi, Jmf

Can you elaborate more on the quotas and timing/deadlines? I am currently considering coming to work to Geneva from London - and I am Romanian.

thanks

Re: Work permit from Romania - change to rules/procedures

My Romanian colleague got her permit for Zurich in about 8 weeks. It was fairly straightforward once the paperwork went in...
