Permit to take up residence?

Hi,

I have looked thrue the forum for threads that could answer my questions but unfortunately did not find my answer, so i have to ask You for help.

I am from EU, Sweden and i am employed in Sweden for a company that have sent me to Switzerland to work for 6 months. I was told i did not need any workers permit because i am employed in Sweden and i pay all my social fees and taxes in Sweden. But as i have begin to understand i need some kind of other Permit to stay here in Switzerland for 6 months, What is that permit called and where do i get it? How long time do i have as a EU-citizen before i have to get this permit?

Unfortunately my HR just told me to go to the local police office at arrival and so i did, but they just said ok and i did not receive any papers or such. Do i have to contact any other office? I am staying in Baden, Aargau.

Can i get the correct permits while staying in Switzerland or do i have to apply for them from for example Sweden?

I would be very thankfull if any one could help me with some info, what permit i need and where to get it.

Kind regards
Christoffer

Re: Permit to take up residence?

From memory, you need to go to your local Gemeinde with your ID etc and a copy of your contract of employment for Switzerland, or get HR to type one out or a covering letter explaining your start and end date in Switzerland and have it signed by the head man for your company in Switzerland.
You need two or more passport photos as well.
They'll take it from there, and looks like every Kanton deals with these things slightly differently.
For sure, you need an L permit to work here for longer than 3 months, or even less.

Go to the local Rathause in Baden, at the end of Rathausegasse. This is the pedestrian street next to Pickwicks pub, between the pub and the clock tower.
Just go in and have a chat with those people, you don't need an appointment. I'm pretty sure you will need to get a permit. They are friendly and helpful in there.

Opening hours can be a bit err.. limited with Gemeinde offices so perhaps best to check on their website (or call them) first.

Does any one know how much time i will have until i have to contact them to get this permit? I have a lot of things to do but if it is urgent i will have to take the time, but do i have weeks or even months or only a few days from my arrival?

As was pointed out to someone asking the self-same question last week, it can vary from place to place. Usually it's around an 8-day time limit or it can be as long as 14 days.

You won't have weeks or months to do it, though.
