Dear Forum members,

I am an EU-citizen, started working in Zurich in Feb 2011, with a 5-yr B-permit. My wife is a US-American citizen (we got married in February).

She is still in the US (California), working. We are about to submit the application papers for the 'Familiennachzug'. We have not been able to find any good information on where it is possible to pick up the Visa when (!) it comes through, only that it cannot be in Switzerland (?).

Ideally, she'd want to join me here by early July, but the visa might not have come through by then. Thus, we are not sure about what to put down for "Welche Schweizer Auslandvertretung soll zur Visumerteilung ermaechtigt werden".

We can of course put down 'San Francisco' - but if the Visa does not come through before early July, she'd need to go back there to pick it up. We are therefore wondering if it's possible to put down, say, the Swiss Consulate in Munich, Germany, which will be only a short train-ride away from Zurich.
But: IF the visa then comes through before she leaves the US (say, by late June) - can she then enter Switzerland on a tourist-visa, and then go to Munich to get the 'proper' visa soon after?

There have been several posts about your situation. The others did what you intend, have a romantic weekend in lovely München or Mailand or Paris and come back with the Visa.
