| | Married name change in B permit, any idea?
Hi, everyone.
Is there anyone who encountered a married name change in B permit? Here it goes, I recently got the approval of my new married name. I went to get my new "family book" to keep a file (just in case, I will need it). In our country, the name is like this (for example) : FAMILY NAME - KELLER, GIVEN NAME - JENNY,MIDDLE NAME - GOMEZ ( KELLER, Jenny, Gomez) and once the person got married, the name will appear as, (for example, the new family name will be HITCHCOCK) (HITCHCOCK, Jenny, Keller). But I have learned that in CH, Middle name is put as "other name" so once you changed your family name, it will still remain as Gomez instead of Keller as your new middle name. So, I got my family book with the new family married name but they kept the middle name instead of using my old family name as middle name. As for now, I will leave it like that as it is not needed for the time being. But the thing is, I need to change my B permit. Will they usually follow on what is in the passport? Because if they will follow the passport, then I wouldn't have any issues whenever I travel. Because the name will be exactly what it is. But if they put the single middle name and not as like in my passport, then I will be another person. I just don't understand why it is like that because I specifically explained to the person during the time I was changing my name that I want my name exactly the same as in the passport. Because that is my new married name. The fact that it takes months to wait for the process and now having this worry is just getting in me. Anyone could help me give their insights? I know you guys might tell me that it's better to ask directly to the canton but I would still be very glad if anyone could tell me regarding this matter. When we changed the B permit (in name) do they follow on what is in the passport? Thank you very much.

In my country we have two "christian" or first names and a surname (family name). So we could be Ann Sara Brown. We would call Sara a middle name, and that would never change unless you just don't use it. Your surname may be changed when you marry or you may add your husband/wife's. But that doesn't turn your surname into a "middle" name either.
In some other countries a person has one christian/first name and two surnames, which appears to be your case and they have preserved the wrong one. I think it might be best to explain this to the authorities and have it changed for your own convenience, so you don't need to keep explaining yourself.

In the B permit, will they usually put the Family name only or will they also put the middle name? Do you happen to know? Thanks.

I changed it to my married name and gave a copy of my passport. After months, I received a letter stating that everything is ok. Until I went to get a copy of family book and noticed that Middle name is kept. And in our country, the maiden name becomes a middle name once we got married so my passport has Givenname Maidenname(as Middlename) Marriedname. I am more concerned now with the Middle name thing. I am hoping that in B permit, they will only put Givenname Marriedname. Because with that, everything will be fine as it will be considered as one person but once they put the middle name as they restored the other one in family book, it will not be tally/the same as the passport which gives headache whenever I need to travel. Thanks.

My passport only has my married name in it but my C-Permit (and the B-permit before that) has my maiden name double-barrelled with my married name. This seems to be the normal way of things here and I have never encountered a problem whilst travelling.
Sometimes, when returning to Switzerland, they ask for my permit at passport control but they have never once commented that the passport doesn't contain my maiden name and therefore differs from my permit.

That's already good thing to know. But usually, as I am from the third world country, they sometimes giving us headaches with such issues as they want the passport and permit to be the same or at least there will be no name that will appear which is not in the passport. But as you said, they didn't put your Middle name in your C-permit/B permit and this is already a breather. I will cross my fingers on that and hopefully, they just put my givenname marriedname on my B permit.

In our country, they have so many "rules" and the officer can be a pain whenever they want to. Not all though.

Bumping up this thread. Im non-EU just married a EU with B permit 2 weeks ago in baden. How does it work with the name change? I have B permit already in process but with maiden name.
How does it work in Aargau? Do i need to renew my passport with new name to get new permit with new name? Will they accept just a "amended" passport? because renewing would take 10 weeks, ámending is faster. Is it mandatory that i get a stay permit with a new name or should i be ok with maiden name until the permit im about to get expires?
And we havent even reported the marriage yet to my embassy, and i read about names having to be approved first? Im confused
