EU B permit, unemployed

Hi,
I started work in Switzerland and was granted a B permit that expires in 2014. I lost my job after a few months and now am dependent on my partner (we are not married).
My question is this - do I need to hand in my B permit now I am not working and switch to a different type of permit or is the B permit still valid?

thanks!

Re: EU B permit, unemployed

I have a EU B permit until 2014 and I haven't worked since November 2010 (I only worked for a few months)... no-one's kicked me out yet!

My permit is actually an 'authorisation de séjour' (residence permit). Then in much smaller letters it says that the object of my stay is an authorised lucrative activity. You might want to check the wording on yours.

Depending on where exactly in the EU you come from and how long you worked there, you may be entitled to unemployment benefits. I can't speak from personal experience on this as I am on a medical certificate and so claim income support, not unemployment.

However be aware that you will need to get a job by 2014 if you want to stay here beyond that date.

Or change your permit, I guess.

No. You don't have to do anything regarding your permit. Just concentrate on finding a new job.
Good luck!
