student permit B question: if I graduate early, can I keep my permit?

Hello...so much useful information here, thank you. I have a very simple question which remains unanswered...

If a student has a Permit B and their studies finish earlier than expected (eg the student leaves the school), is the Permit still valid until its expiry date? Or does the fact that the person is no longer a student mean their Permit becomes invalid?

thanks in advance!

Re: student permit B question

I guess you already know the answer and pose the question in the faint hope that it isn't so?

I really don't know the answer... but your answer seems to indicate that the permit is invalid?

You college is obliged to inform the authorities and they will cancel the permit - or in your case as an EU type maybe invite you in to talk about changing it to a job seeker's permit.

Re: student permit B question: if I graduate early, can I keep my permit?

no

wrong information -

nobody will inform the authorities, you can keep the student permit until it expries and meanwhile search for a job and stay in switzerland.

it can be better idea to apply job seeker permits when this permit is close to finish, however, they say that they count the 6 months starting with you complete all requirements for graduation before you got the diploma I think, because to get the diploma takes longer

Summary: If you have now 10 months long student B permit, nobody will inform any authority and you can use it 10 months long to stay in Switzerland and look for a job.

The educational establishment has an obligation to inform the authorities if the student leaves the course without completing.

he is not leaving without completing, he finished the lectures earlier than expected.

finishing the lectures earlier and completing all requirements does not imply that you have to graduate, this is the first point. You can wait and graduate later, say meanwhile you visit some lectures as pleasure...etc.

You have to right to stay as student until your university allows and extend your permit too. If you want to graduate, this may take 2-3 months until you have everything.

Furthermore I do not think (I am not sure), any educational establishment is informing authorities about your graduation unless the authority is asking for it, and this will happen in the next renewal of your permit.

University does not care about the authority, unless the authority asks them about your situation.
