Re: can i give private tuitions?

Native speakers often find it very difficult to explain fine points of grammar, especially if they have not studied other languages themselves. I teach 3 languages, French which is my MT, English and German which are not. I teach English to all levels, with total confidence, as I have achieved native level during my 41 years in the UK, including a B.Ed.Hons teaching Degree and 30 years teaching experience (not boasting here, just fact). Currently I only teach German beginners to intermediates, as I have lost the near native knowledge I'd acquired when I taught in Berlin. I feel that often being a non-native who has had to learn myself, I have more empathy and can explain grammar and patterns better than a native who has never had to analyse their own language. However, I'd agree that OP's post is not encouraging. A good teacher should be aware of their limitations.

Re: can i give private tuitions?

I am taking German classes with 2 Scottish girls, and when it comes to grammar rules I must say they are absolutely, err, amazed. I have to translate into English what the German teacher says, and sometimes I just feel the urge to laugh when I see they clearly have no idea about grammar, any grammar. Mind you, they are NOT stupid at all.
I am just sayin'.

Yeah, but we're talking about native speakers of English here, not subject peoples from the colonies.
