| | Do i need to get a special license?
Hey there all,
couldn't find a post about this subject, so...
I am soon to receive my permit L and I am to open a business on the lake at lausanne. the business is to give lessons on paddle boards on the lake. (Paddle board is kind of a big surf board). Does anyone know if i will need like a special insurance? or a special license for water activities as such?
Thanks a lot,
Boaz

Hi- I must say I find your post astonishing, to say the least. How can you plan starting a business here without having worked all that out before.
Any sport activity will need you to have a very substantial liability insurance in case of accident - surely this is obvious. As far for a licence, I have no idea- or whether you'd be indeed allowed to start you own business on L permit. Surely a Forum like this is NOT the place to ask- you need absolutely solid professional advice.
My understanding is that L permit is given for a short-term contract or for a EU resident to job hunt only, for an absolute maximum of 364 days. Does anybody know the answer re -starting a business?
Edit: 3. Nationals of all EU/EFTA coutries with a view to starting a business in Switzerland
The rules for independent entrepreneurs are the same for nationals of all EU and EFTA member states. EU/EFTA nationals wishing to start a business in Switzerland can apply for a 5 year B EU/EFTA permit with the respective cantonal authorities. This permit will be granted if there us proof of an effective independent activity. The cantonal authorities determine what documents etc. must be presented, as a general rule these include some or all of the following: business plan, proof of capital for starting the business, proof of specific preparations for launching the business like rental agreements for real estate, a registration with the register of commerce etc.). Self-employed nationals of Bulgaria or Romania remain subject to quota regulations and a six-month’s start-up time till 2011. Please ask the cantonal migration offices for details.

Or, the OP should really enquire at the 'Office de la population'.
I was of the understanding that it's not possible to start a business on an L permit. ? ?.

If I have understood the information correctly, you will need to apply for a permit which enables you to set up this activity. In other words, you cannot set up this business on your current permit. Here is a list of all the paperwork you will need to provide when making the application.
And yes, I would imagine you would need special insurance. But I think you need to do a lot more research before you start up your business.

Your boards must be certified generally for use in Switzerland and specifically for use on the particular lake. As you are new to Switzerland this will all take time to set up - allow nearer to 12 months than 1 .

My life will be slightly easier no? | | | | | If your GF is Swiss of course she can set up a business, but she will still need the relevant permits and insurance. Weather she can then employ you to run it with an L permit is something that Swiss Bob will be able to answer better than me.

Hey there guys, so...
"A sole proprietor is not required to register in the commercial register if annual turnover is (or is expected to be) less than CHF100,000, but will be required to register for VAT if income exceeds the VAT threshold, which since January 1, 2010 has been CHF100,000.
A work permit is generally required before commencement of trading (although residents from EU-17 countries, ie the ‘older’ EU member countries, do not require a work permit to commence business, just a residence permit)."
Doesn't this mean that I, or my girlfriend doesn't even need to register our business??
Help
Cheers,
Boaz

You would still need to register with the social and tax authorities, the local town hall, health and safety authoritries, and in your specific case with the lake authorities/police.
