Late Controle des Habitants registration

Hi all,
as the post title says, I think I'm getting in trouble with the controle des habitants, since I spent almost 8 months in Switzerland without registering to the commune. I'll briefly explain my situation. I'm an EU citizen and I arrived here in september, and suddenly started looking for an apparment in Lausanne. It had such an hard time, and it took me more than one month to find something. I've continuously delayed this simple commitment. I'm going to finish my study period in Switzerland in one month, and only know I'm figuring out how serious could be having delayed the registration for such a long time. Tomorrow I'll go the controle des habitant and do all the stuff. What I would like to ask is if you know what kind of sanctions could be applied in my case. I'm pretty sure that I'll have to pay some kind of fine.

Thanks a lot for any useful information.

P.S.: sorry for my poor English

How will they know you have been here so long unless you tell them? Pretty sure they would have sent the Police round if anybody actually knew.

Re: Late Controle des Habitants registration

Actually you're right, It's a weird situation. It could be that my student house managers didn't send to the registration office any info about my staying here. Some of my colleagues received letters from the commune when they were late with the registration, but I've never received anything so far... Anyway I'm planning to come back here after my departure (probably in 6 months), that's why a prefer to get "regularized" ... What I'm worried about is the consequences of the long time passed here since I arrived. Actually I've never been here for more than 3 months consecutively (I'm an exchange student in Switzerland and each 2-3 months I used to spent some weeks in Italy), but I'm aware that this one won't be a valid excuse ...
