US/Swiss couples

As I said in my introduction post, I have very selfish reasons to be here: my fiancÚ and I would like to get married, but we are facing so many different streams of information it is difficult to divide between useful.

I am quite certain, we aren't the first binational couple in that combination, and I would love to meet some who already fought the paperwar and survived ;-)

Our current situation: We would like to live in Switzerland, though he hasn't a work permit yet (and consequently still lives in the States). At the moment we are checking what would be easier:

To prepare his paperwork that we can be married in Switzerland (and have it recognized in the States later on)

have my paperwork prepped and marry in the States and have it recognized here.

For a marriage in the States we have another pro argument:

His mother can't travel by air, my family members can. But won't this create a lot of hassel with the Swiss side of things?

The migration department of Solothurn isn't that helpful, I must say.

I asked for an appointment with the Frabina-helpdesk in Solothurn to check the legal sides, but I would like to speak to some who already went through this paperwar.
