Unlimited contract but got a L permit??

Hello Everyone,

I'm non-EU ETH graduate and currently found my first job in Zürich. The contract does not have time limits and still I received a L permit today. I'm not working as a trainee by the way. Is this a mistake somehow? Because I don't think my case matches the situation described in L permit (http://www.bfm.admin.ch/content/bfm/...willigung.html).

Also I read that the max. duration (extension included) for L is 2 years. So I have to leave Switzerland even if I'm still employed?

I a bit worried now...Thank for your answers in advance.

Normally you would be getting B permit if you keep in your job after 2 years, someone may correct me if i'm wrong

Don't worry about it. Towards the end of the L permit you'll get a B permit.
They have quotas for B permits and I believe it's not unusual for a non EU person to get an L first.
I'm EU and had L permits for 30 months (Baselland) before I got a B.

Is L->B subjected to quotas as well, for non-EUs?

Thanks for the reply!

No, the quota system only applies to those entering the Swiss labour market for the first time.

I think this was it, I got a B permit with my permanent contract, i guess since the quotas have been reduced since I moved they gave you an L but will be changed to a B next year or maybe after 2 years, don't worry!
