EU C Permit - what format?

I searched - really, I did! ... but I couldn't find an answer to this question:

In what format does an EU C Permit come? Is it a scruffy little booklet with the photo stuck in like my current B Permit, or will I get a nifty little credit card thing which I'll be able to carry around, pristine and lintless, in my wallet?

I haven't got it yet, mind, but fingers crossed and thumbs pressed...

EU C or do you mean CH C..? for CH creditcard size. My C was changed to the new format when I needed to renew it a couple of years ago (but I still just leave it at home).

and why can't they just make an all-in-one card for Switzerland...?

ie: work permit, Driver's License, ID, GA, Maestro, MasterCard/Visa, Bancomat, Health Insurance card, Coop Supercard, Migros' Cumulus..

Sorry for vagueness... I may have been celebrating the submission of my application with one or two Farmer biers from Landi (as one does).

I mean a Swiss C Permit for an EU citizen. I've been given to understand that the origin of the applicant makes a difference to the format - or have I been led up the garden path?

Thank you - that's answered my question pretty conclusively.

I must admit to a little disappointment at the thought of having another booklet (but I've still got my fingers crossed for actually getting a C Permit!).

Re: EU C Permit - what format?

The Credit Card sized permit ( Euro Compatible Biometric ) is for 3rd country nationals to facilitate cross border movements and the booklet form is maintained for EU nationals.

OH me too, what a coincidence, I started working here five years ago too. I got mine two weeks ago.
Same format as little plastic booklet B, but with an undescriptible light greenish colour. Impossible to coordinate it with any shirt, forget that right away.

Re: EU C Permit - what format?

Just to revive this thread .. oh mighty ones with newly minted C Permit (EU)status ... did you have to ask for your C Permit application or did it arrive automatically and you just had to fill it in?

And DB, why were you in doubt of receiving your C Permit after your 5 years EU B Permit had expired? We have always been told it is automatic but your comment is making me wonder ...

I received my invitation to renew my B Permit, which I returned with a request to apply for a C Permit. I had to fill in a short form and submit it with a form from the Betreibungsamt (to show I hadn't any debts), a form acquired through the post office to show that I haven't got a criminal record, a form from the Social Services dept to show that I've never fallen upon social assistance, and a wodge of cash.

As with everything else in Switzerland, it varies from canton to canton. In Glarus, the granting of a C Permit is not automatic.

By the way, in answer to the original question: my C Permit is indistinguishable from my old B Permit: just as big, just as impractical, but oh! so very beautiful!

Now why does that not surprise me. Thank you .. armed with this info, I will ring the immigration department.

And glad to hear you and your Permit are so happy together.

Well, young Padawan, when my turn came up 7 years ago they sent me my B permit, which I posted back with a request for C. This duly arrived, where-upon I stuffed it in some drawer somewhere...

I do wish it was a credit card one though...

Mine is a heavily embossed vellum scroll with illuminated lettering sealed with a fine beeswax and encased in a walnut case polished with the finest earwax of the local Gemeinde chief. I cherish it.
