Residence permit for EU students (Zürich)

I'm a Hungarian citizen, and I've been granted admission to the University of Zürich from September 2011. I've read numerous threads about the need to prove sufficient financial means in order to obtain a residence permit, but I am still confused about a few details:

1.)Most comments I've found are from students, who are not from an EU country, and some of those comments are 2-3 years old as well. I was wondering, that perhaps more relaxed standards might apply for someone from an EU country/ if some regulatory change has occurred in the last few years that I should know about?

2.)Since I'm a student, I have no income and assets of my own. I've read some accounts, where a letter from a parent guaranteeing sufficient financial support (without an actual bank statement) was enough for the Migration Office to grant a residence permit, but I'm not sure if this is policy, or random luck? I'd be very happy to read about your experiences and thoughts regarding this whole process.

Thanks for everyone in advance, all the best,

Re: Residence permit for EU students (Zürich)

I'm a EU citizen as well (Denmark) - I began my MA studies in Bern in February 2012. Although I have a foreign scholarship for my studies now (Danish government scholarship, SU) it hadn't come through yet at the time and as I had to start school I needed the permit. I just went to the migrations office and presented them with my lease etc, including a really un-professional looking printout where my parents stated they were funding my studies with 1500 CHF each month (no they weren't). First visit I was told that I needed to show copies of their passport for signature identification purposes, so went back to get that. Second visit no questions were asked, never showed the passport copies, got my B permit. I think there's an element of randomness to the procedure for EU students. This was canton Bern.
