| I'm an American with a C permit. My American husband of 15 years and our three children have joined me (regroupement familiale) six months ago. He has a B permit. If we separate, will my family be broken up? Will my husband have to leave, thereby forcing the children to have parents in different countries?
This seems very strange for a country that seems so supportive of family.
Can someone give me some guidance?
Thanks

If you divorce, he would no longer be a dependent of yours and would thus lose his dependent B Permit status.
If you separate (and do not officially divorce), he would still legally be considered a dependent and would in theory be able to keep his dependent B permit; however, if the authorities see this they may suspect fraudulent pretenses in your family reunification application.
