Hurt and Sad by Migros Klubschule, Basel

Guys, my one year plan to Learn German in Basel has gone for a toss due to error from Klubschule Migros in documentation about thier lessons per week does not meet the law requirements.

They promised us all the necessary documents will be submitted to the Embassy..In the end with just one week to go for my flight. They apologized for their mistake and promised to refund all the money.

Now, its too late for me to find another school and reapply as the procedure itself will take another 6 to 8 weeks. The only option left before me is to come as a Visitor and do a basic German course for 3 months.

What a bad luck!! Hope no one goes through what i am going through right now.

Have you considered looking just over the border? This is a good school and a good location. They were also very on top of permits, etc. I went there a long time ago, but I wouldn't think it has changed too much.

Thanks

Infact, i love Germany and always something good has happened to me there.
But the fact is, all my freinds are in Basel. so that ties me up to stay close to them and learn German practising with them.

The school that Where2 suggested is in Freiburg -- it's close to Basel. If you have a car (I guess not?), it's an easy daily commute. Also quite feasible by train.

How committed are you? It's an option ...

F*£$ MIGROSKLUBSCHULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would never recommend anybody goes there.

I had arranged for my cousin to come over a few months ago to do an intensive german course with migros. There were not many options around the lenzburg/aarau area starting at that particular time andd having a time schedule that would fit her working in a bar. This one was booked up 4 weeks in advance and so were the flights which coincided with the course.

3 days before the course was due to start, they emailed me to say that due to the lack of applicants, they had to cancel the course and offered me another option which was not possible for her to attend or my money back, yeah great, how about the flight money back too!

I ended up having to pay an extra 300.- and a train pass to send her to a school in zurich. Thankfully that school was of a much higher standard.

Never count on that poorly run establishment of a school!

Frieburg is really a good option. however, when it comes to getting permit, it wud be a totally different aspect right.
i thought of not going to Migros klubschule..i am in swiss now, staying near Basel. thinking of looking for different school before applying by next week.

You have to realise what Migros is for - it offers courses designed for people living here, esp new arrivals. It doesn't offer itself as a language school for visiting foreigners and has never offered to arrange visas or residence permits.

I am finding this very hard to believe as Migro's go out of their way to inform people that they do not offer courses that lead to residence permits. Indeed, they state that any visa or residence permit requirements are solely the responsibility of the applicant.
