| | Do British citizens need to acquire work permits before moving to Switzerland?
Im sure this has been asked before, but I can't find the exact answer...
My girlfriend and I are moving from the UK to Geneva for a period of 3 months. She has an internship for that period, and I was planning on finding work once we had settled.
My girlfriend's company are sorting her work permit out for her. My question is what do I need to do before i begin looking for work?
Do i apply for a permit before I begin job searching, or before I even leave the UK?
Is it common for the employer to sort the permits out for their employees (In which case, I can apply for nothing until I find a job...)?
Can I legally find a job whilst on a tourist visa, as im only here for 90 days?
I feel iv waffled a bit there, but any comments would be massively appreciated. Cheers.

No you do not require a work visa as you are an EU citizen, however you have to register at the cantonal office for a residence permit, which you will most probably get an 'L' permit.

If you do find a short term contract, as yiu will only be here for a couple or three months, you can self register online - no need for a residence permit at all.

you can't yet until your post count is up but you can always attend events when you arrived and say hello!
I do feel that this forum is a life saver and besides a few commercial ads, I am not sure who is paying for this. Other forums that I been on, there is a donate button for paypal.. I am sure we would all like to put some money in from time to time beside trying to work out who is a mod at an event and pile drinks on them! Although that got entertainment value as well | This user would like to thank gourmet for this useful post: | |

Hey
I'm from the UK. Moved over a month and a bit ago. I tried to register and they told me I couldn't until I had a job. Also i cannot get a bank account until ive registered and have a job.
In limbo at the moment. Partner is Swiss and we plan to stay here.
Is this right??

No need for a visa, just a working contract really
You can also come without a working contract but then you will have to go very often to the gemeinde to give explanations on how are you surviving here in terms of income etc.

As Swissbob said, they must allow you to register as a jobseeker. Just get ready to visit the authorities quite often lol
