Tips for traveling outside CH with near expiry passport and permit in renewal

Just to share my experiences when I have to travel with passport expiring in 2weeks and permit handed-in for renewal.

Relevant to Non-EUer.

Went to Migration office and negotiated a Return Visa (Type D visa, valid for 2 weeks (the same validity as passport's) in the same day. The best part of the story is that I didn't pay a dime. I love Swiss flexibility.

Flied out of CH into CA and back with only one challenge at boarding return flight, but showed them the Visa for proof of ability to enter CH.

Hope such experiences help to eliminate some anxieties.

Swiss guys are more flexible than you could possibly imagine.
