Leaving Switzerland while Applying for B Permit ?

Hi, folks,

I have obtained a Swiss visa to enter Switzerland for family reunion (my spouse is a non-eu citizen who's working in Switzerland under a B permit), however I have heard that getting the B permit can be a time consuming task.

I wonder what is the implication of getting out of Switzerland before the Card/B permit is issued to me? Can I exit Switzerland at all? I will be applying for the permit in Canton Zug.

Thanks for your answers in advance.

And btw, I had the impression that non-eu citizens when they try to get a job in Switzerland, the employer has to prove to the government that it is next to impossible to find a replacement in Switzerland/EU to fill the position. Does obtaining the B-permit mean that I am no longer restricted by this law?

Phil

Re: Leaving Switzerland while Applying for B Permit ?

Yes, and No. As far as I know, someone might correct me if i'm wrong, there are 2 type of B permit when is for family reunion. They will decide at their discretion if you are allowed to work. If they grant you the B with work, then you can work as anything you can find a job for. If not, then you are only allowed to live here instead of just being a tourist. Good luck!

Does your visa say 01 or Single on the number of entries? (the page that is in your passport) If so, then no, you're not supposed to leave. However, you can go to the immigration office and get a re-entry visa (80-90 chf? depends on the canton), which will allow you to re-enter.

If you're going to be gone for some period of time, it might be worth putting together an official letter (in German) saying that your spouse can pick up your registered mail, since that is how your permit would be delivered. It stays at the post office for one week and is then sent back if you don't pick it up.
