graduate student and family permits

My husband & I are americans living and working in Switzerland with C permits.
Our son, daughter-in-law and their new baby may be moving to Zurich so that she can attend graduate scool at the University of Zurich. The program could take 2 to 5 years depending on whether or not she does a doctorate.

They will both want to work, at least part time. What kind of permits will they need? If she gets a student Visa/permit, what kind of residency privilages will my son have as a spouse?

Re: graduate student and family permits

Your DIL, as an American citizen will most likely get a student B permit. Her husbands permit will only be a residence permit attached to hers and will not inherently have the right to work. However, if he finds a job his employer would be responsible for obtaining the work permit. I do not know if your C-permits will impart anything to your son.
