Need to apply for an australian birth certificate and along with the application form, I need to send in certified copies of my identification documents. The form allows for certification by justice ofthe peace (very Australian centric concept), notary public or lawyer with current practicing certificate.

Has anyone else gone through is process? Any idea whether getting a simple notary stamp will suffice or whether I also need to get it 'legalised' by the stadt buro (at an addition 30 chf per page, on top of notary fee). If there are any lawyers out there with current practicing certificates who wouldn't mind certifying, would also be great!

Is the certificate for you or a member of the family? I have needed more copies while I have been here and I have just gone onto the Birth, Death and Marriages website for the state that I was born in filled out what I wanted, payed my cost plus postage and it has arrived on my door in Zurich.

I didn't need to have a notary sign anything for me to get it. If you know all the details that they ask you should be okay, give it a try.

Victoria requires proof of identity. But I don't think a full legalisation is required - an Apostille should be enough. As always, it's cheaper in Germany (notarial fees: EUR 10 + EUR 0.5 per page + postage (if you want it sent to your address in Switzerland) + VAT for the certified copy, court fees: EUR 13 for the Apostille)

Thanks. Yes, it is for me and yes, i do need certified copies of my identificaion. I was just wondering what the easiest, most efficient way of ding this in Zurich would be.....

A Zurich Apostille is CHF 30 per document (not per page) link
