Swiss passport / uk citizen

We are planning a move from the UK to Switzerland. My husband (dual nationality) has a Swiss passport and uk Passport, but has never lived in Switzerland. I am British (uk passport only) and we have two children (5 and 6) (uk passports only) Do we need to apply for any residency visa's/permits etc. Do we need to apply for anything for schooling? Anything else we would need to think about so its all legal. We do have family (cousins there too)

Re: Swiss passport / uk citizen

You will all need to register at the local town hall - you and the kids will get B residence permits as a matter of right. The topwn hall will point you at the schools etc.

About 2 months. But it doesn't matter. You'll have the papers that your permit is being processed to do whatever you need to get done in the meantime. It's pretty much automatic.

Not for EU citizens - once registered it takes a couple of days to a week.

Well, then they are moving at the speed of light now. Mine took 2 months. Granted that was more than 10 years ago....

You and the kids can apply for a Swiss passport when you register in the Stadt office. If you dont need the Swiss passport I would advise to at least apply for the ID card. The ID card allows you to travel in the Shengen Countries without your passport. Also easier then your B permit to carry every day.

Check out the exact wording here please. Is the wife Swiss? Or do you mean she should apply for Facilitated Naturalisation?

Re: Swiss passport / uk citizen

Well my daughter was able immediately to apply for Swiss passport. Had to help her a little with the forms as she wanted to draw a house on it.
My wife will have to wait another year (I believe 5 years from marriage) and yes the correct term is Facilitated Naturalisation.

Thanks, however, I'm confused, (doesn't take much) I am purely born and bread, UK citizen (like our children) and hubby has passport, surely getting a passport could not be an option until we have been in the country 10/12 years... ??

Your kids: because they have one Swiss parent
You: because you're married to a Swiss and come from an EU country - google "facilitated naturalisation Switzerland"
