Can I get a job with a Permit B?

I have a Permit B through my husband who works here but I don't. Can I get a job/apply for a job or do I need additional paperwork? Would the company hiring me need to sponsor me for some sort of work visa if I have a B?

Thanks.

Re: Can I get a job with a Permit B?

in general yes u can get a job, but there have been some strange restrictions on B permits... it should contain all the required info and wil say if you can work or not.

Re: Can I get a job with a Permit B?

Since 2008 spouses of those with non EU normal B permits get the the right to work.

The employer still needs to do some paperwork but no quota is involved and the work permit cannot be declined.

yes
the B permit is a work permit
unless there are different types of B permit. But I am aware of the one and that allows you to work here.

Students can have B permits which do not allow them to work, my OH had that.

Not necessarily! I have a B permit. But on the reverse it says I have no permission to work in Switzerland..."Nicht berechtigt zur Erwerbestätigkeit in der Scheiwz".

So I twiddle my thumbs and live a life of minor luxury.

By the way, does anyone here know whether being an artist and selling one`s paintings here (or from here to other countries) count as "working"?

(I did not want to take the risk of being slammed over the knuckles for starting another thread over my question, as nothing came up in my searches.... so I`m just taking advantage of this one)

If you sell stuff and make an earning I am guessing you need to include that in taxes. So yes that would count as working. But since you are working for yourself...now that seems a gray area.

did you speak to any potential employer, I know that "no permission to work in Switzerland" can be easily changed in the civil office

Re: Can I get a job with a Permit B?

Check what printed on your B-Card. It usually tesll if you can work or not.
Do a language translation. If is says "family reunion with gainful emaployment" then yes you can work.

Thank you Wettingen1 ....

I was head-hunted ..... hahahaaa .... for what I do ..... got all the correct forms from Gemeinde, filled them in, potential employer filled them in and sent them to the Migrationsampt via Gemeinde. Came back that I may not work ..... I am too old..... Okay, ja, so I`m old, but a girl still needs her drinking money, ja know?

I do a regular annual event here - paid for by the Gemeinde - they even take off the AHV and I pay my tax ....... but ...... for some reason I am not allowed to do any formal employment.

I get regular offers of work ... but have to turn them down.

Hmmm....I may be in a similar situation age-wise, though I am not past the legal retirement age - 64, right, for women? But won't they allow you to become an independent consultant and set up your own business? Or are there age restrictions on that too?

This sounds strange - there are no laws on a maximum working age, only on a minimum retirement (pension) age. Did they quote any Art.# when denying your application?

On what basis are you officially in the country?

Couldn't you just kind of sell your paintings without actually being in any kind of employment?

No, no "Art.#.... just a "She has no permission to work" on the reply letter to the prospective employee.

The reason I am here is that I am the "Indispensable Grandmother" who takes care of the children, while their parents work. They are all Swiss Nationals. My son is my sponsor... and he guarantees that I will behave myself(!) ... pay any fines I get .... .... etc etc.

It was a "Family Reunion" permit B ..... have been here 6 years now.

As an aside, I have learned that one HAS to pay into the pension fund if one works, and that is the reason "they" do not want me working .... I have no claim on a Swiss pension.

I have an AHV number, and the Gemeinde do take that money off what they pay me. Been doing that for the last 3 years .... they actually ASK me to work! Just seems I may not work for any private person - or is it that I earn the maximum non-taxable annual amount?

And I have never enquired what they are doing with the AHV they take off.....

Puzzles me ..... I can work, enjoy working, people ask me to work for them ...... I`m happy to declare and pay tax and whatever ...... But I am prevented from working.

Yes. That is what I am going to do.

The creative juices have begun to flow again ........ and I`m painting again.

Watch this space!

But I`d still enjoy a little bit of real physical work - if only they would take these manacles off me...!

You will be entitled to "EL Benefits" under the Federal Law when you attain
pensionable age and have 5 years of residence qualification. I understand.

Tricky - the basis for your permit actually prevents you from taking up full time employment as you are needed to look after the children.

Was the employment offer full or part time? - part time should be ok and will almost certainly allow part time self employment to sell your paintings.

You understand wrong. There are employment criteria that must be fulfilled.
