| Looking to move to Switzerland and my husbands Swiss passport expired a few years ago. He is just about to complete the lengthy procedure of renewing it. We had no idea how much he would need to do. Its only for him and not the rest of us.
Firstly, because his details have changed (married/kids etc) as he has fallen out of the loop they need the following;
our original birth and marriage certificates and kids birth certs. - We won't get them back at all and we would have to apply for new certificates. (yes I know.. Strange) . The lady said to me as its so easy for us to get certifcate copies, this is standard procedure.
Once they have received our docs and registration form, it take 4-6 weeks before you can apply, as it get sent to switzerland.
You then have to apply online, but once you have done this, you have to go to the swiss embassy, London, to get your fingerprints and photo.
thereafter it takesabout 2 weeks to get the new passport.
All in all, its going to take us approx 10 weeks for a renewal. Anyone else experienced this? Seems awfully long!

What are your expectations? Once a document expires beyond a certain point, it's validity becomes more questionable.
Secondly since the issuing of the document, the situation of the passport holder has changed re: family. This means there's more to check since last time, especially the children's entitlement to Swiss passports/nationality under Swiss law. I take it the Swiss passport holder didn't advise the Swiss embassy of their changed circumstances?
So 10 weeks for all this to be updated and certified including new documents is pretty ok. Especially if the kids also qualify for their own Passports/IDs from Switzerland afterwards....
To give you a perspective, I sent my Irish passport to be renewed 2 years ago before expiry, it took 4 months for the new one to arrive back in Switzerland!
