| | Can I apply for a Swiss citizenship after 3 years of marriage?
Hi all EFer
I am not a new member here, and I visit EF nearly eveyday, so I get almost all of the new info in our forum. The question I have now, it seems different from most of the others'. I came to Switzerland in 2007 as a student, and I finished my study in middle of 2009. After that I did a registration partnership with my partner till now. I've just read in Federal Administration website, it is said that: http://www.bfm.admin.ch/content/bfm/...06.html#a_0006 "You must have lived in a stable marriage with your spouse for at least three years, have lived in Switzerland for five years all in all, the last twelve months of which must be without interruption". I think it may apply in my case next year, as I am living here almost 5 years, with 3 years of marriage. I wonder whether I can apply for a Swiss Citizenship next year. I will ask the immigration in Bern later, when I renew my B permit. in the meantime, I just want to know if anyone here in the same situation like me, or do you have any ideas?
Any reply would be much appreciated |

You should double check this. I don't think "registered partnerships" convey the right of citizenship, only marriage.

Each Kanton is different. I have to wait 12 years to become Swiss!
You best just call your Gemeinde and they can tell very quickly

Something for the OP to investigate, if applicable. Anyway, the OP says partnership then below says he's been "married" for 3 years.
Andy, I think if you want better answers we need more details.
Good luck!

yes you can.
same sex marriage or registered partnership is the same as marragie
with the exception you can not adopt kids
after living here for 5 years and being married for 3 you are entitled to apply for citzenship like anyother straight married couple.
best of luck-

The foreign partner of a Swiss citizen does not have automatic rights to a Swiss passport or expedited naturalisation however they are entitled to a residence permit from the Swiss immigration authorities. - Swiss Federal Administration provides detailed information: Click here
Naturalisation for non-Swiss nationals partnered with a Swiss citizen - A registered partner of a Swiss citizen is eligible for naturalisation if he or she has been resident in Switzerland for at least five years and at least one year prior to application, and has been in the registered partnership with the Swiss citizen for at least three years
- Further information from the Swiss Federal Office for Migration: Click here

I am not sure about the law, as it is written very general. For me, my partner is Swiss, so I think it won't be a problem. Anyway I will ask them to be sure. I will tell you details when I get more info about that.
Thanks AussieRose, miniMia, KB88111 and sam ali for your replies. xoxo
Have a nice weekend EFers!
