Getting married from a French

Hi,
I am so glad I found this form it seems so much help.
I am living in UAE, but my girlfriend is French and living and working in Switzerland.
If we got married, will I get Switzerland permit? and what kind and how long it would takes.

Thanks guys.

Life is complicated, why not ask her? If I married an Indian, would I get UAE permit?

Very funny!!!
She is EU citizen, working and living in Switzerland, I guess it's a bit different than your funny comment, isn't it?

I married a French citizen and got a five-year B permit under the EU quotas, even though I am American. So that is what you would get. I got my permit within days of arriving in Switzerland as a newlywed.

I don't think she is aware she is getting married just yet.

Re: Getting married from a French

Your ironic comments really make me laugh...lol
My girlfriend and I been knowing each others over 8 years and we been visiting each others in Switzerland and UAE. I am from Egypt BTW

But guys, I still didn't get a clear answer for my questions. Only NicoleCZ seems had the same case, but the only different I am Egyptian.

Will I get the permit even if she is French? and how long it would take?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Getting married from a French

get married and you'll get the same rights as your EU spouse. In theory....at some point.

if you get her to ask for a permit for you to come and marry her here, that will likely bear more progress more quickly on a permit for you to work.

HTH

First, thanks for your quick respond.
But are you saying that she can ask the authority to give me permit even before we got married and while I am still in UAE?

yes but it's likely you won't be able to work until it's all done and dusted.

have you proposed yet? If she hasn't said yes then all bets are off.

Yes I think that is possible, but honestly as your girlfriend is already working here she could go to the local authorities and get all the (correct) answers to your specific case and then you know for sure what you need to do!

Re: Getting married from a French

If a non-EU married partner of a Swiss resident with EU passport applies for a permit, you will apply under Family Unification regulations and you will PROBABLY be granted a permit although they will ask questions to check this wasn't a marriage of convenience (I have been through this process).

If you are not yet engaged (you seem to have not answered that question) and you just show up saying that you'd like a permit and one day you may marry her, it would be as if applying in your own right and you will get one only if you would have got one anyway.....the relationship won't carry much weight, I think

If you have paperwork showing you are getting married, such and such a date etc, it obviously improves your chances. Oh, and if they grant it under the Family Unification conditions, they may make it conditional upon housing arrangements and passing exams in the official language of the place in which you live

Re: Getting married from a French

French is the official language in that Canton, and English is not an official language in CH.

You would need to contact the appropriate authorities in Geneva.

Some cities/cantons offer weddings in English, but most do not.

To get married in Geneva, Yes, or you need a translator. To register your marriage, no. But you may need to get the marriage certificate translated.
