B permit that expires in one year?

Hi, I got my resident permit in the mail today. I was surprised that I got a B permit. I'm a US citizen and I was expecting a L permit but I got a B. It says:

Aufenthaltsbewilligung (B)

there's also a "B" in the back where my small photo is. I think this means a B permit right? I'm a little surprised that the expiration date is only one year. It says:

Gültig bis 28.09.2012

I thought B permits are issues for 3+ years? Why the one year expiration?

Re: B permit that expires in one year?

My B permit expires every year and I paid CHF122 the last time to have it renewed for another year. It is normal.

Re: B permit that expires in one year?

Canton Zürich has a higher cost of living perhaps ?

That was for the Biometric version.

Does the price depend on the canton or also on the Kreis you live in? Need to get one as soon as I find a place to live

They told me my B permit was one year because I'm non EU, and is still one year even if I'm married to a Swiss.

I submitted my renewal application in May and am still waiting for my new card. I called this week to follow up and they said they would get to it ASAP.....to which she said would take about 2 months :-S. By the time I get the new one they'll be sending me my renewal forms again.

Re: B permit that expires in one year?

FWIW my permit arrives 1 or 2 weeks before the old one expires.

Re: B permit that expires in one year?

I usually apply 3 months prior to the deadline as my rail tickets with Deutsche Bahn are often bought 3 months in advance and ticket security has watermarks of my Residence Permit ID.

Once I asked for and got 2 years on my permit ( paid only CHF85 for 2 years ) but this was only when CH joined Schengen and a change from the booklet version to the plastic Euro Compatible card format.
