| | Requirements for maintaining C permit
Hello,
I have the following question: if the person with C permit chanhges employer and has to leave Switzerland due to the work, but is able to maintain residence requirements (have swiss address, not be outside Switzerland for more than 6 months), i.e. returns to Switzerland 3-4 times a year - will the person be able to maintain the C permit? Even though the person does not have Swiss employer?
Is having swiss health insurance policy mandatory for keeping C permit?
Any thoughts. (I am in Canton Geneva).
Thanks.

Thanks. | | | | | Yes, how would anybody know if you did not de-register? A C permit has nothing to do with work.
Many people who have bought B permits with tax deals are not here very often as well!

You mean yes - the person will be able to maintain the C permit, or yes - having swiss health insurance policy is mandatory for keeping C permit?
So even if the person doesn't work in Switzerland and shows up in the country every 5 months (given that you can't be outside Switzerland for longer than 6 months to retain C permit) and just maintains the swiss address - that would be sufficient to keep the C permit? And they would renew it? By the way is the renewal every 5 years or every 10 years? (I am US citizen)

If you are registered as living here, you must have Swiss health insurance.

When you get the form to renew, you fill it in pay your money and that's it!

But do carry on it is rather entertaining.
The other comparisons to tax deal B permits are ludicrous as the beneficiaries of these are not supposed to work in Switzerland to begin with. |

You can de-register, stop paying your Swiss health insurance, write to the Swiss migration office, and return within 4 years. Read the back page of your permit.

If you leave Switzerland for less than 6 months and return, you can keep your C Permit automatically. However, if you leave for more than 6 months but less than 4 years, you will have to apply to keep your C Permit on hold.

We had just gotten our C permits in 2008 and were asked to relocate to the US. We weren't sure what to do- could we keep our house and rent it out, would we lose our C permits after we finally got them? Our relocation agent was great. She wrote the letter to the Migrationsamt and we included a letter from my husband's employer explaining our temporary relocation situation. We were approved for a two year hold on our C permits. Luckily we moved back to Zurich one month before the expiration and got them back right away. We did cancel our health insurance before we left as we de-registered with the gemeinde.
