| | travelling without a Travel Document, is it possible???
hey everyone,
I have applied for the renewal of the Travel document of my daughter (born in switzerland, permit C) a month ago, and i have been told that i will recieve some answer from Berne in 3 to 4 weeks..but i have not heard anything and its the 5th week..i am really panicking now because i have to travel in the second week of january 2012 to attend the wedding of my sister in paksitan. I am wondering if i will get the travel document by that time..supposing i dont get it what are my options????
is it possible to travel without travel document??? what can i do EXCEPT wait for the letter from Berne to arrive?? I applied for the Biometric travel document of my son before my daughter and i got the passport within 1 month!! and now this renewal process is taking ages..
Please help me,, |

First things first.
I have no idea what a travel document is, but have you tried to contact the authorities to which you applied to get this document, and ask them why it's taking so long?

I think you mean the passport.
Try to talk to the embassy in bern and explain the situation.
They should be able to help.
As far as I know, its not advisable to travel overseas without proper travel documentation (passport, visa etc...)
Good Luck.

Assuming you are talking about a swiss passport renewal.
As you are in Vaud, the procedure is you go to your commune first, then they give you the details of how/where to get it done. Last I knew there was only one center in Lausanne that did the new biometric passports, and you have to go there, but only after making an on-line appointment request. At certain busy times of the year, it can take weeks or months to get an appointment. After going to Lausanne, it was quite fast and passports came within a few days. Good luck.

Do you mean "passport" renewal ?
Is this a swiss passport ?
Thanks.

I don't think it is a Swiss passport renewal since the OP said Permit C in the first line.
I think the OP has a Pakistani passport and C permit and would need that C permit to re-enter the country on their return from the wedding.
If you got a letter from the commune when you applied this may be enough. Best idea is to phone and see what they say. They may be able to put a temporary visa on your passports at a cost.

thanks everyone,
By Travel Document i mean the Passport..as its not the Swiss Passport so they say it a Travel Document. Let me make the situation more clear, I am from Pakistan and my Husband is from afghanistan, so the kids have Afghan nationality and to enter pakistan they need a Pakistani Visa! and to get the visa i need the Passport!
Yes, i went to the Commune and they directed me to an office in Lausanne where i submitted the old passport and they registerd my application. I went through the same procedure when i applied for the Biometric passport of my son. but i recieved a letter from Berne just after 3 weeks demanding a fee of 40 CHF and after the payment they asked us to go to Lausanne Biometric centre. i went there and the passport arrived in 3 days!! i thought for my daughter it will be the same, but its been 5 weeks and i have not yet recieved the first letter, demanding payment. I am wondering what to do now??? I called Berne but they asked me to write an email or send a letter to the TRAVEL DOCUMENT DIVISION and no matter how hard i look into their website i couldnt find any such division!!
What now??

Thanks, just wanted to add that my husband is a recognized refugee, so the kids have also the Refugee status. They dont have Afghan passports, instead they are issued Blue colour Travel Documents by Swiss Govt. So we can't contact Afghan Embassy for the passports..

in cases such as this ALWAYS TELEPHONE never send emails, you then have your answer fairly quickly. they have hundreds of emails a day so yours will take time to get to.

a) Its a Swiss Document
and
b)The document is not for a national of Pakistan.
So they might just say, "We are not involved", and that would be correct.
I would suggest to call Berne again, and if possible, try to get someone from your local gemiende to call them and find out.

There was someone who told me sometime ago that if you have to travel in emergency and you dont have a passport, the commune issues you a letter explaining the reason why u dont have it at that specific time and then u can travel..i dont know how much of it is true..
But, i have a question! If some one has to travel in emergency, lets say i have to absolutely go to pak, beacause of someone;s death for example and my permit is in the process of renewal, or like this time my child's passport is in the process of renewal how on earth could i travel??? i am sure there must be some way!!!! |

If you've ever tried calling the pak embassy in Switzerland, you'd probably never get an answer from them.
They are nothing short of a joke.
