Working permit for an MBA student's spouse

Hello!

I am not from EU and I was thinking to start my MBA studies in one of the MBA Schools in Geneva. If I understood correctly, I can apply for a student's B-Permit. The authorities might give it to me ot might not.

In case they issue me the permit will my spouse get the working permit as well? What type of permit will it be and will she be allowed to work normal ours?

Thanks a lot!

This question comes up a lot. Do a quick search on the forum to get the laws and more in-depth answers. Start by scrolling down to the bottom of this page where you will find "similar threads".

But basically, if you can show you can support your wife and that you have an appropriate place for both of you to live, then the authorities will probably grant a permit for your wife. There are many students who have come on here to complain their spouse's visa was rejected. So it's by no means a given.

If they do approve, she will get the same permit as you. If you get a L she will get an L and can't work. If you get a B then she can work.

I thought it was different with a student B-permit - that work authorization was not included unless the first permitee also has working rights with the student permit? Work permit for spouse of non-EU PhD student...

With a regular L dependent permit, no, it's not. If a company wants to hire a dependent L permitee, they go through the same hoops as if the person was living outside Switzerland/EU.

I'm not totally clear on the student permits, however - maybe ask the institute you are considering to give more information?

It's possible. I don't know specifically for a student B. That's why research to find the source is always necessary.

I do know that nonEU L permits for nonEU spouse do not include work privileges.
