| | What does "Number of entries requested" mean?
Filling out my Swiss visa...not sure what it means exactly. The number of times I physically enter the country? It's a long term visa, I'll be living there for at least a year, and I will be leaving Switerland to go home for the holidays several times, and returning - do those count as entries?
Thanks for your help. |

Might be useful to shed some light as to the purpose why you are applying for a 1 year visa.
CH Visa = to enter the country.
CH Cantonal Residence Permit = to stay, work or study. The permit is recognised with your passport as valid for visa-free entry to countries within the Schengen Zone.

Ah, I got a job at CERN. The contract is for 1 year with the potential of being extended another year.

Yes just choose multiple entries, it doesn't seem to make any difference other than allow you to leave the country during your wait for your residence permit. At least that's how it was explained to me.

| | Visa App. - Number of Entries Requested
Hey guys,
I'm in the process of applying for my Student Visa.
There is a section that asks: "number of entries requested."
1. single
2. two
3. multiple
I'm certain that I'll only be flying into Switzerland from my home country (Canada) just once (single entry in that regard).
But once I'm in Europe, I'm sure to travel here and there within the continent itself. If I leave Switzerland to check out France, Germany, or even England, will I need to check off "multiple entries requested?"
Is this in consideration with Schengen or all areas of Europe considered?
Thank you for your time.

This is what I was told via email about this visa question: " tick “one entry”. As a student, you will be given a one entry visa anyway. The visa will only be valid for 3 months (during which you are allowed to enter Switzerland once). Afterwards, you will have to apply for a residence permit which will be valid for 1 year and has to be extended afterwards."

I traveled to my local Swiss Consulate yesterday and applied for my visa. I asked her what "Number of Entries requested" meant, and she said, "Don't worry, all CERN employees get a multiple entry visa." So, I still don't quite know what it means...

If you do need to leave the country before you get your residence permit, you have to apply for a re-entry visa. If you have a multi-entry visa, it means you don't have to worry about a re-entry visa if you need to leave the country.
For example, I arrived last July on a single-entry visa. I applied for my residence permit, but I had a trip to the US planned in August. If my residence card had not come before I left, I would have needed to apply for a re-entry visa. My husband, on the other hand, had a multi-entry visa, so he didn't need to worry about it. Hope that makes sense | This user would like to thank anowheels for this useful post: | |
