Two steps for non-EU L-permit extension?

Hi everyone,

I am a non-EU citizen on L-permit with an umlimited work contract (local Swiss company).

My first L (lasts 10 month) is going to expire and now I'm confused about the renew procedure.

It seems that I have two things to renew, if I understand correctly, first the Arbeitsbewilligung(work permit) and secondly the Auslanderausweis (resident permit). Is it truely like this?

The story of my extension runs like this: I got the letter from Kreisbüro to extend my residence permit, but it says B instead of L. I went to the Kreisbüro personally to clarify the situation and they found out that it was a mistake. So I got a new renew invitation letter for L and in addition, a formular to extend my work permit, which is to be filled partially by my employer and sent to AWA Zürich (office for work and economics, or similar).

So now it seems I have to go to AWA with this additional formular and my original resident permit, and I have to go to Kreisbüro as well, again with my original permit...Do I really have to go to two different offices one after another (which could take a looooooooooong time) or did I perceive wrong of the procedure?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: Two steps for non-EU L-permit extension?

Hello,
I had renewed my L permit recently. This was the procedure which I followed. Basically there are two things, you have to extend your work permit and also residence permit.

First I had to extend my work permit. I had to submit few documents for that, like my existing work permit document company information etc. Later I got my work permit extension approval. This activity was done by my company, I had to handover the documents to my company rep. (Probably they would have gone to the AWA office ).

Meanwhile, a month before my L permit expirey, I got a letter from Kreisburo for permit extension. I had to obtain a signature and renumeration details from my company for that and submit the same in personally at the Kreisburo.

Hope it helps.

BR,
venu

@Zurich2009,

Thank you very much for your reply!

I'm afraid I have two more questions. Did the government inform you that you have to extend the work permit? Or you were informed by your HR?

Secondly, it seems I have to submit my original resident permit to both offices. How can it work?

Hello,

I was informed by My HR. The extended permit was sent to my company and HR had informed me. I never had to submit my originals. May be once you go to the office, they might take a copy of it and give you back the originals, you may just have to take the originals with you.

Re: Two steps for non-EU L-permit extension?

Hi - just bumping this one up to see if anyone else has experienced the same thing. As of July 31, my husband and I have been on an L permit for two years, which I understood to be the maximum and that we will now get a B. We've just been sent a letter from the Kreisbüro that we need to come in to extend our L. I suppose it doesn't matter either way for us. I'm not planning to go back to work this fall, so if we are on an L another year it's okay. I just thought that we would get a B at this point - and hopefully for longer than 12 months so we don't have to do this every summer!

Has the maximum time for an L gone up from 24 months? Thanks for any help!! I'll go to the Kreisbüro Monday, but just curious if anyone else has experienced the same.

Re: Two steps for non-EU L-permit extension?

Dear Members ,

I have the same question that if L permit extends beyond 24 months and did anyone face the situation and if then under which scenario they extend to L rather B permit ?

Appreciate the response.
