American girlfriend in Switzerland

Hi Forum,

I hope someone can give me some information regarding my American girlfriend staying here in Switzerland( I'm Swiss) She is here looking for a job (had a interview, but nothing else yet) Last week we went to Dublin for Easter and the woman at the Dublin airport stamped a 3 month visa in her passport. What does this mean for her? Can she stay 3 more months in Dublin, Europe, Switzerland? When we came back into Zurich, for the first time the guy at passport control didn't ask her any questions about how long she plans to stay or how long she has been here. We wondered if that was because of the Irish visa.
Any help with this question is welcome.

Thank you.

Important information for U.S. citizens traveling to Switzerland
As a citizen of the United States of America, you may visit Switzerland or any other country of the Schengen area, without requiring a visa. As a general rule, you are allowed to stay in the Schengen area for a maximum period of 90 days within 180 days. "

Re: American girlfriend in Switzerland

Ireland's not in the Schengen zone so I wouldn't think an Irish visa would have any effect on her right to stay in Switzerland. Don't know though. I reckon the people to ask would be the cantonal Migrationsamt.

(Anyway, if she's American she shouldn't need a visa to visit Ireland. Are you sure it was a visa, or did her passport just get an entry stamp?)
