Permit B expires

My permit B in Geneva expire in 16/08/2012. My problem is that I ll leave Geneva on 11 May and I will be back on 26 of August (when my permit is expired). I went to the OCP in order to apply for renewal before but they said to me that I cant renew my permit 3 months before of expiration date. Please help me what should I do in this case? Is there any problem if my permit expire for 10 days and I renew it after I come back in Geneva?(I can enter in Switzerland without my permit or visa)

Re: Permit B expires

You cannot enter Switzerland with an expired permit... You may consider rescheduling your return ticket before the permit expiry date...

Is there any opportunity to apply for permit outside of Switzerland by sending letters with post from my country??

Dude, as Warlock79 said, I'd advise you to rather secure a reentry visa from the authorities (sets you back like CHF90). That's one less headache in a world full of them Otherwise, you risk being admonished, at least.

Re: Permit B expires

I see from your details you are a student and though it is many years since I have had any experience that world and things may well have changed, your situation seems to me to be not uncommon. You probably need to get some kind of letter from your place of study stating that you are in the midst of your course and that you are returning to complete it. I don't imagine you will have much difficulty getting a new B student permit. But I would certainly check with the relevant authorities. However without a seamless renewal you might find that the gap could be considered as a break of residence. The reason I am saying this is that a friend's son did this and though it didn't seem to matter at the time, as he was planning to move elsewhere after his studies, when he decided he wanted to stay on permanently in Switzerland he discovered that the residence gap of a few weeks meant that the authorities set the clock back to zero. So when he wanted to apply for naturaisation he had to wait an extra 5 years before he could apply. So if you might want to stay here permanently I would certainly check out what really happens.

Re: Permit B expires

an american friend of mine had the same issue, they gave her an entry visa (she got in in one day) and she did the application process when she was back from holidays. if you call foreign police, they are really helpful in directing you to the best option...
