Re: Should I get married? ( to assist a non-EU for a B permit )

Why should you (OP) get married? Getting married is something special, you do it for the rest of your life, or at least this is what most people think of marriage..Why should you spoil the moment? Is your family so much obliged to the parents of the girl that you have to say "yes, I'll do that", for not dissapointing anyone? I mean..is it a question of honor, is it a question of life or death matter (if she's not coming to Switzerland secret services will arrest her or something - I know, silly scenario but I couldn't come up with something better) or is just a question of pleasing the parents? `Frankly, I think that if you do that, at some point the things will not go as planed, in a way or another...and you'll be left with a bitter taste if not with empty accounts. Don't do it. Nobody should ask such a thing, unless the situation is...tragic.

Because they don't care if he likes her or not, it is just for the paper. It is a sham marriagenot an arranged one.
You've got a point.

I guess that the only solution is that a female EF-member has a sham marriage with Phil in order to prevent the other sham marriage.

Or maybe you were lucky? Art 42 of the LEtR says otherwise

http://www.admin.ch/ch/f/rs/142_20/a42.html

« Le conjoint d’un ressortissant suisse ainsi que ses enfants célibataires de moins de 18 ans ont droit à l’octroi d’une autorisation de séjour et à la prolongation de sa durée de validité à condition de vivre en ménage commun avec lui. »
Actually, probably because my permit wasn't based on my wife being Swiss, I had had it for years before we got married, and thus there was no "regroupement familiale".
