Is a tourist Visa renewed when leaving Switzerland?

Can anyone tell me if a tourist Visa is renewed as soon as you leave Switzerland so you can then come back for a further 90 days?

Or is it a case of you are only allowed 90 days in Switzerland per year?

I come from the UK and have been living here for a month and a half because my girlfriend got a job in Switzerland. I've been trying hard to get a job myself but so far no luck (from what I've read here I'm not the only one that's had trouble!)

At the end of my 90 days I could apply for a further 3 months job seekers permit but there's also the possibility that I may go back to the UK to work for a month just before my 90 days as tourist are up (this was a job I had lined up before we knew we were moving to Switzerland, I've kept it there as a plan B in case I couldn't find work)

I've heard rumours that you can just leave Switzerland for a bit and come straight back but this just seems unlikely to me? If anyone has some answers I'd really appreciate it.

Michael

No. You can not leave and come back the next day. As a tourist you have 90 days in a 6 month period. So you would need to leave for 90 days before you could come back.

As you say, you could apply for a job seeker permit which will give you 90 more days and this can be renewed once for another 90 days giving a total of 6 months job seekers permit. After that, then you'll need to leave.

Good luck.

It's not about the EU. It's about the Schengen area. You have 90 days within a 180 day period. Both Norway & Switzerland are in the Schengen area (neither is in the EU).

You can stay in Norway for 2 months leave for a month but then you only really have one month in Switzerland. To reset your 90 days you'd need to be out for 3 months.

If you are not an EU citizen you can't apply for a job seekers permit. Only the company who hires you can apply for your permit for you, which is very difficult for non-EU citizens at this time.
