B permit help

I have been a student in Switzerland for around 4 years now and have completed my studies, but the father of my baby has not completed his and I would like to stay with him for his final year so he doesn't miss out on our baby's first year. My B permit expires in Sept and I am wondering if I can renew it if I am no longer a student, do I have to have a job to renew it? can it be part time?

Re: B permit help

As far as I know (I have a B permit too) it is renewable for 5 years. Then for the 6th renewal you go thru all the paperwork again........ about how you are surviving here, what you`re doing here, etc etc.

But rest assured, more intense and knowledgeable advice will be forthcoming for you.

(Keeping a family together is important, so if your partner is supporting you or you`re self-supporting I see no reason for expelling you (?).

It depends entirely on your nationality.

erm, that it depends on your citizenship. Some exceptions but generally the op would be ok if from an EU state and generally not ok if not.

Re: B permit help

I have a B-permit too that renews every year for 5 years. Each year I have to fill out a paper that is also signed/stamped by my employer in order to get it renewed. It was a rather long process to get the B-permit because I am neither an EU citizen nor a VIP (lots of paperwork and time to prove that I'm the only one able to do my job). So I think if you can get the same visa renewed as a student, that might be the easiest. I live in Basel and find that the people at the Migrationamt have been helpful in answering questions I've had in the past.

What nationality do you have? Are you married? Are you living together? Do you have a job?

Re: B permit help

Hi

Switzerland does have Stagiaire-Agreements with certain countries overseas. This could possibly be an option to stay here as it is easier to find a job. However, there are certain limits (age, duration etc.).
