| | Working in Switzerland, living in France, can I do it?
Hi!
I will be heading to the EPFL at Lausanne next April, and I am pretty keen on staying in France. The only problem is that I am not from the EU (I'm from Singapore). However I have been living in France for the last 5 years as a student. At the moment, I got a temporary resident permit for France, as a researcher, before I start by stint at the EPFL.
Does anyone have a clue as to whether I can continue to live in France and work in Switzerland? Any input would be much appreciated!!! Thanks!
cheers
shank

It's a bit far from Lausanne to France. Would you need to go the EPFL everyday? Somehow I think as a non EU person this will be very difficult.

In your case, with temporary residence in France, it is not possible to do this.
It is possible for non EU/EFTA citizens as long as they fulfill the following conditions:
Lived in the border region for the last 6 months
Have permanent residence in France

Thanks for the info!
The situation gets a little bit more complicated as my wife is going to work in Geneva and me in Lausanne, hence the idea to live in France. And yes, both of us have to commute everyday.
I guess we would have to find a place in between the two, one that would not cost too much... heard that the towns next to the lake have got killer rents
By the way, is it really that much cheaper to live in France, as compared to the Lausanne/Geneva area?

Well it sounds alright, just that it seems that I have to reside in Switzerland. Any suggestions for a place thats between Lausanne and Geneva, and not too expensive?? thanks!

There are many small but comfy towns in between.
Nyon is the biggest and more lively.
If you like wine, Rolle is in the middle of the vineyards, Gland is also quiet and nice. ( but booring )

Thanks!
But are these places expensive, in terms of finding a place to rent?

If the French are happy to give you a Titre De Sejour then you may well be able to get the G Permit from the Swiss as the 6 months residency in the border region only applied to French nationals and is as far as I know no longer applied at all. ash

Ok, thats interesting, thanks! I will call up the prefecture in Gex or some town next to the border and ask them about it.
