Complex Situation: Permit L - Marriage - Pregnancy

I'm a bit worried with all my situation in Switzerland.

I'm Portuguese and I was living in Paris before, together with my Girlfriend from Latvia. She's pregnant (5 months now).

I've been working as a freelancer and I got a new contract here for 6 months (with probable extension of contract).

I've arrived in Switzerland on June 1st and started to work on June 4th.
I've rented an apartment (wasn't necessary work permit) since June 1st.

My girlfriend arrived here one week ago (July 10th).

I don't know the reason why, but the agency that hired me, only now requested my Work Permit (Type L, I think).

For what I could understand the only way that my girlfriend has to be legal here without working, is us getting married, It was not in our plans, but of course, as we are starting to build a family in not an issue.

She'll have all the documents necessary for marriage in coming weeks as well as me.

All we want is to be fully legal here, having insurances for both of us and to have all medical assistance that my girlfriend and our babies (yes, twins!! ) will need!

My worries are related with all the delay that was provoked by the agency that hired me. They say that the permit will take about 8 weeks and without a permit I think we can't do much.

I'm going to put all the questions to the legal authorities, but decided to come here first, as you can give me some tips.

Regarding the marriage, for what I could understand, the process can be only after I receive my work permit. Is this correct? How long it will take the complete process (considering that we have all the paperwork in place)?

After the wedding she'll have automatically the same permit as me to live here?

Insurances, can be only be made after I receive the work permit (for me) and after the wedding for her?

The downside of not having insurance in these first months is that we have to pay from our pocket all the expenses, but we can use all medical assistance that we need, correct?

Thanks in advance for your help!
